Turn Your Restaurant Into A Hot Desk Hotspot For Extra Revenue
With distancing regulations in full swing, restaurant revenue has plummeted since the beginning of the pandemic. In order to recover some of that lost income, the industry needs to get creative in how they use their spaces to bring in business.
With so many offices closed, the working from home trend looks like it might be here to stay. But with children running around and cramped spaces, the at-home worker is often found searching for those elusive productive hours . This could prove a huge opportunity for restaurants to turn their dining rooms and lounges into hot-desking spaces.
First and foremost, you need to verify your insurance and ensure that you can create a co-working environment with social distancing and Covid safety measures in place. If all that checks out, consider using some of your rooms and spaces to allow local residents to work in peace. To generate extra income, you can charge guests a cover fee to use the space. If that doesn't appeal to you, offer free working spaces with purchase of lunch, and ensure you have a barista and baked goods available to serve up coffees and pastries throughout the afternoon.
Though you might think coffee shops offer the same experience with no fees, but they don’t always have the ample table space, comfortable seating, quiet corners and beautiful surroundings that many restaurants do.
What you need:
1) A strong, reliable internet connection - essential for pretty much every remote worker
2) Comfortable seating - you can’t expect your workers to sit for hours on hard chairs
3) An extra supply of office supplies - always have a few spare pens, paper and notebooks for your guests to use as needed. You might even let them use your office printer (with a cost per sheet of course)
4) Set office hours - ensure that have clear hours in place for when your space is available to use for hot-desking. You need to be mindful of when you need your tables back for evening trade and communicate that well to your customers
5) Quiet - Don’t blast the space with loud music or have someone noisily cleaning throughout the day. Soft background music is fine but be mindful that customers are trying to get their work done
